Mayor's Foreword

In July 2008, Council launched Blacktown City 2025 - Delivering the Vision Together, our vision to guide Council into the future with confidence, creating a Blacktown that current and future generations will be increasingly proud of.

The Vision is an exciting blueprint that sets a framework within which Council can practically manage the future growth of the City, and retain its place as a Regional leader, helping to shape the health and prosperity of not only this City but also the broader Western Region.

The Vision's 8 key strategies embrace the many aspects of City life and 9 unique Trigger Projects which support the delivery of these strategies. In just two and half years, Council has achieved 3 of the 9 Vision Trigger Projects and has made advances in the remaining six projects.

Council has completed the highly anticipated Blacktown Olympic Park's $30 million AFL/Cricket project. The complex has already hosted AFL's national Under 16's Championship, the NAB Cup and a 20/Twenty cricket match between Sri Lanka and the RTA Speedblitz Blues.

Our strong partnership with AFL Australia has seen the establishment of western Sydney's first AFL Team - the Greater Western Sydney Giants that will enter the AFL Premiership competition in 2012.

Council has developed an integrated Environmental Sustainability Framework that sets out Council's environmental goals and responsibilities now and into the future and ensures Council's commitment to be environmentally sustainable turned into action.

Development will soon commence on Blacktown Showground to create a showcase precinct encompassing quality cultural and recreational facilities

Blacktown City 2025 - Delivering the Vision Together has seen Council taking a lead role in developing a Community Strategic Plan which forms part of the new Integrated Planning and Reporting requirements recently announced by the State Government.

Realising this Vision will require a concerted effort by all including our many and diverse partners over both the short and long term and more importantly, the engagement of our Community in delivering the vision together.
